Essex Uni Dojo

Welcome to Essex University Sport Dojo. Here, you will find all the information you will need about what to expect from training.

Kyokushinkai is a full-contact karate style introduced from Japan to England in 1965. Although it is full-contact, you will only engage in full-contact sparring when you are ready. Our more experienced karateka will be respectful of your level and you will start by learning the basics until you get comfortable sparring. Full details about training can be found here.

Nintai is the name of the club, which opened its first dojo in Manningtree in 2018. Nintai means Patience Perseverance and Endurance, which is the mindset of the people who train here. The club is run by Senpai James Miles and has members ranging from 6 years old to 73 years old. The Essex University dojo will be for adults only.

Nintai, is part of the British Kyokushinkai Karate Association (BKK) and the International Federation of Karate (IFK) which host many national and international events. Most notable of which are the British Open and Summer Camp. Summer Camp is where the national Black Belt grading occurs but is also where hundreds of Kyokushin karateka from around the country and world come together to meet and train together in the spirit of original Japanese way. Both events we would hope to host at the University one day in the near future.

We look to welcoming you to our new dojo at Essex University Gym on Thursdays at 8pm.

This is an example of high-level tournament kumite (sparring) you can expect from Kyokushin. Dojo sparring is lighter but we condition our bodies to be able to take blows to the body and train to be able to block blows and fight back! You will only spar when you are ready and we will build you up to love it!

This is an example of kata, an integral part of karate training, displayed by a BKK club based in Wales where Nintai has many good friends.
